Important Information

  • You will be receiving documents shortly either via FedEx or electronically through Docusign.  Please be aware that electronic documents will be from eSign Auto-Administrator via DocuSign with the subject “REMINDER:  Account documents for your electronic signature” 
    • You will receive one email per account.
  • Summit has stated that they will be charging a termination fee on your accounts.  This termination fee will be credited back to your new account upon transfer to HD Vest Investment Services.  No action will be needed on your part.
  • This transition, in and of itself, will not trigger a taxable event as we are not selling and rebuying holdings.  All assets will transfer in kind.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

 What was the rationale for making this change? 

There was a whole host of reasons.  One of the biggest was the tier methodology we use to manage money and the blockage of this from our previous broker dealer.  Secondly, we felt it was in the clients' best interest for our broker dealer to not be institutionally owned.  As you know, Summit's parent was sold a couple of times and again most recently to a Wall Street institution.  Third, we believe we will be able to lower the overall costs for the client by improving on the technology we utilize to manage money.

Has anything changed at Core+?   

No, our team is still solidly in place and getting stronger as we have a robust three year growth plan.

Will this change be seamless? 

Well, nothing ever is!  We expect a few hiccups along the way, but our team will be working hard to minimize the frustrations for you and simplifying the process.

What do I need to do as a client of Core+?

You should be receiving documents to sign either via FedEx to your home address or via email through Docusign.  Please sign the documents and return them to us as quickly as possible. 

If you elect to receive your documents via email, please be on the lookout for an email from eSign Auto Administrator or DocuSign with the subject similar to “account documents for your electronic signature”.

When will I receive my documents?

You could receive an email as early as today.  We currently have a team of five HD Vest transfer specialists assisting us with getting everyone's documents out as soon as possible. 

How long will it take to transfer my accounts?

Once we have all signed documents, assets could be transferred in as soon as 2-3 business days. 

Is our private information being protected? 

Yes!  We take every precaution to ensure that your information is safe and protections such an encryption is a high priority for our firm.

Will I be assessed any fees?

Summit will charge you a termination fee, but that fee with be credited back to your account upon transfer to HD Vest. This something we were very diligent in ensuring would happen upon deciding on HD Vest

Who will my statement be from?

Statements will come from HD Vest Investment Services.  You will have the election to go paperless should you choose.

Is the change going to affect our distributions? 

Core+ is aware of your distribution needs and we plan to implement those distributions in a timely fashion upon the transfer of your accounts.  If you currently are receiving a monthly distribution or have your accounts linked to your checking account, please note that you will receive a separate eSignature email with these documents.  If you have elected paper documents, the electronic funds transfer (EFT) documents will be included. 

What about our Required Minimum Distributions (RMD's) for this year?  

The Core+ team will be working hard to make sure that all RMD's are handled efficiently and correctly before year end.  If you believe that you may have a RMD issue, please don't hesitate to bring it up to your advisor.

If I need to deposit money into my account, who do I write the check to?

This is dependent on whether or not your accounts have been transferred over.  Please call our office for direction regarding your situation.

What happens if I need to make a transaction before the transfer is done? 

A Core+ advisor can conference call with you to the Summit trading desk to facilitate any issue that might arise.

What about my alternative investments?

These are a bit more complicated. Each investment may need to be handled differently. Visit with your advisor to discuss the appropriate strategy

Will my cost basis transfer over?

Yes, all cost basis records will be transferred over within 30 days.

Will we have the history of our account performance? 

Not likely.  We are working behind the scenes to try and make this happen, but at this point, we believe we will lose historical information.

What about performance reporting going forward? 

Core+ will be rolling out one of the most advanced performance reporting packages available.  This may take a few weeks, so be on the lookout for the announcement.

Will I get a new log in?

Yes, as your accounts are transferred over, you will receive your new login information.  A link to the new account access portal will be available on our website as well.

When can I expect my next review? 

The Core+ team is all-in on getting accounts transferred over, but have not forgotten that planning must continue.  A program is in place that will queue quarterly reviews back into the system as clients approve the transfer of assets.

Are only certain advisors going to be based at each of your locations? 

No, advisors will continue to meet clients at the location that is most convenient to them.

Have your hours of operation changed? 

No, we will still be open typical business hours and closed on major holidays.  As you know, your advisor can be reached via email at any time and we will always work to respond as soon as feasible.

Will you be holding any events? 

YES!  Our new multi-purpose room at the Cypress office is set up for presentations.  We will be putting out a calendar of upcoming events.  Follow us on Facebook or check in to our website for details.

What other services do you now provide? 

Along with our financial services, Core + Tax can provide bookkeeping services for your company, tax preparation for your company or individuals as well as consult on accounting and tax related issues.

What is the process for giving you a referral? 

We appreciate each and every referral.  As you may know, there is no minimum for any client account.  Our mantra is to help everyone we can.  If one of your neighbors, co-workers or friends want to discuss our services, simply provide their name and telephone number to your advisor.  We will promptly and courteously reach out to them.
